Driver Monitoring System (DMS)

Fatigue and distractions are key risk factors for professional drivers and one of the challenges fleet managers face is how to help their drivers practice safer driving.

A driver who yawns or even dozes off during driving, or looks away from the road – is a driver who is at risk of being involved in an accident that in addition to possible physical harm, can have serious financial ramifications. These include goods that are not delivered on time, the costs of repairing or replacing the damaged vehicle, driver and vehicle down times and higher insurance costs.

Ituran’s integrated DMS solution can detect drowsiness, distractions or unsafe driving for up to twenty different drivers that are identified by advanced facial recognition technology. When these attentiveness issues are detected, the system triggers a voice alert to help the driver regain control of the vehicle. The system may also be configured to detect driver smoking and use of a mobile phone while driving – interferences that concern many fleet managers as they could have dangerous outcomes – and can be installed in both commercial truck fleets and in passenger cars.

When integrated with Ituran’s technology, the driver monitoring device installed in the vehicle provides an extra layer of control and monitoring. Besides alerting the driver, the DMS integrated solution can connect and transfer real time alerts to fleet management (FMS) and other operational systems, for the purposes of further analyses that will help drive better business decisions.

Drivers feel comfortable with a DMS integrate solution installed in the vehicle as it is a safety device restricted to only potentially dangerous driver behaviors. In addition, the DMS integrated solution does not require a separate SIM, so it is a relatively reasonably priced option in terms of subscription fees.
